PSP 3000 battery life will be fine after all, John Koller says

Despite his innocuous mention that the PSP 3000 will drain the battery "20 minutes, maybe 30 minutes faster than previous models", John Koller has apparently been furnished with revised technical information.

With an undeniably chastised tone, Koller has posted on teh official PlayStation blog that, despite his reasonable statement that the brighter, faster screen will place a heavier load on the system’s battery, the PSP 3000 will run for as long as previous models.

"I’d like to make a correction and clarify that the new PSP will have equivalent battery life to the current PSP, about 4 to 6 hours for games and about 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos," Koller explains. "While the enhanced screen of the new PSP draws a little more power, our engineers in Japan worked to reduce the power consumption of the overall system including its components."

Although this statement carries heavy undertones of a wrist slapping, his mention of the issue during the Gamespot interview certainly rang loud in gamer’s ears. Hopefully his new information is correct, but we’ll have to wait until it hits the shelves in the next couple of weeks to confirm the PSP 3000’s apparently disputable battery life.
