Continuing the ongoing saga that is the LittleBitPlanet release...I found some information from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today that states the whole she-bang is delayed. Three Speech, the Sony funded ’semi-official PS3 blog’ had this message from SCEE posted on it:
During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.
We will confirm the new launch date shortly.
Three Speech added an update later that read as follows:
UPDATE
We’ve just been informed by SCEE that the delay to release is effective worldwide.
So it’s not just a UK or Europe thing anymore. Now the whole thing is delayed, all because one song had some references to a religious book. I wonder if that would have been the case if a song said something like "These are the words which Moses spoke unto all Israel on this side of the Jordan" or perhaps "And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying: Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee..." (The first is from the Bible, the second from the Torah. Well they’re sort of the same in that section anyway). This wave of religious ’correctness’ has far outgrown the times of ’political correctness’ and overtaken it by leaps and bounds.
In fact, this is now more like censorship than anything else. Religion is beginning to impinge upon free speech and since the one cannot truly exist without the other I would think that a line needs to be drawn, about 15 miles behind where we are today. No free speech means to freedom of religion because you wouldn’t be able to state your beliefs without repercussions.
In closing all I really have to say to everyone is: Get a grip on reality!
