Corsair Vengeance K60 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review (Hardware)

Corsair has been known as one of the best RAM manufacturers for quite some time, but in recent years, we have seen them expand their line of products to include cases, power supplies, CPU coolers, and more. Each new product has carried with it, the high standards that Corsair holds. Recently, Gamers Daily News got a chance to check out their Vengeance 1300 and 1500 gaming headsets, and needless to say, we were impressed. Today, I get a chance to tell you about the Vengeance K60 keyboard that Corsair sent to us and Corsair gets to add another notch in their belt of amazing products.

Design

First things first, the Vengeance K60 is one of the most breathtaking keyboards to behold because of its sleek, simple design. The frame of the K60 is one solid piece of brushed aluminium that looks incredibly classy. Instead of making a keyboard like every other, with keys that sink into the frame, the metal frame is the lowest point on the keyboard. This means that every key sits on top of the board and effectively accomplishes 2 goals; the first is a classy look, and the second is that you will never have crumbs, dust, or dirt in some unreachable area.vengeance k60

Each key is attached to a Cherry MX Red mechanical switch. The switches provide an ultra low sensitivity that gamers will love, because the slightest depression will register with your computer as a keystroke. The best thing about the Cherry MX Red switches is that you don’t hear the clickity-clak of keystrokes unless you bottom out the key.

vengeance k60The “Lock” LEDs sit just above the 10 key area and is another testament to the sleek design. Each light looks like a pin hole in the aluminum until you activate the number, caps, or scroll lock. At that time, the pinhole is illuminated by a brilliantly white LED. Beside these lights, you have volume controls. The Mute function has its own dedicated round button, whilst the Volume Up and Down functions are on a scroll wheel for precise control. Just below that are 4 multimedia keys to stop, play/pause, and skip forward and back.

The last additional button on the keyboard is a Windows Key lock out. When you push this button, it will light up blue and disable the windows keys from being pressed while you are in the heat of battle. Rotating the keyboard up, you will notice that the K60 has a built in USB hub. There is only 1 port, but it is still convenient none the less. You will also see the “non-tangle” braided cable that leads to the two gold plated USB connectors (one for the board, one for the hub).Rotating the keyboard once more, you will see the basic, black bottom of the board. The only thing worthy of mention here is that it has 4 flip out feet (2 in front, 2 in back).

vengeance k60I saved the best for last. The final feature of the Vengeance K60 is the attachable wrist rest. This rest is designed for gamers and attaches in front of the left home keys. Perfectly contoured, the rest dips down on the right side allowing your thumb unhindered movement and easy access to the space bar. The top is covered in a soft rubber to keep you from slipping, but the best feature is the button on the front. When you push the button, the rest opens up to reveal 10 additional keys and a key removal tool. The 10 red keys include WASD and numbers 1-6. For gamers, these keys are great because they are highly textured for grip, and contoured to help you identify them without looking.
