[GENRE] puzzle brawler  [PUBLISHER] Pieces Interactive [DEVELOPER] Pieces Interactive
[PLATFORM] PC [RELEASE DATE] November 2008

As the name of the game suggests, Puzzlegeddon is an attempt to combine puzzle and rocket-exploding Armageddon. At the beginning I must say that as strange as it may sound, it is a good deal of fun.

The game is divided into 2 different modes:

  •  Solo Brawl - battle against bots
    • Deathmatch – you compete for points in time-based matches and clear mini-challenges to return to the game
    • Battle Royale – last man standing in a series of rounds
  • Poison Peril - puzzle for survival on the planet.

The principle of the Solo Brawl mode is as follows: by matching the same coloured boxes into 5-or-more chains you get points. Each colour stands for a different ability you may then use. There are four colours: red (attacking ability), green (defence), blue (boost) and yellow (disrupt). Each of the colours is further rated by stars (3*** max) according to which you get a different level of the ability.

So for 1* in red – attack - you get a small attack, for 2** you fire triple rocket and for 3*** you launch “a monster attack”. The same works with green - defence (1*anti-missile; 2** sap; 3*** reflects opponents’ attacks), blue - boost (1* puzzle; 2** missile; 3*** power), yellow – disrupt (1* radar; 2** puzzle; 3*** wormhole – creates a wormhole which swallows a number of opponents’ attacks).

All of the abilities are explained and usage is taught in the Tutorial, which I really liked because you must first “deserve” the stars and then use them – at this point the Tutorial will tell you the way to use the chosen ability to the fullest.

Our Rating for Puzzlegeddon Review (PC)
8.0
Replay
You get a lot of fun even after playing for a longer time
7.5
Graphics
Combination of 2D and 3D environment, for this kind of game – very good, but not astounding
7.0
Sound
Music is nothing extraordinary, sounds correspond to actions
7.0
Gameplay
Bots are too experienced even on easy. Mouse sensitivity is preset very high and needs time to get used to it but overall it doesn’t make the game less playable
0.1
Multiplayer/Online Content
Possible, but when I tried the internet I was not able to find an opponent
7.4
Overall
Good deal of fun making you a little bit schizophrenic. Several modes available but a campaign or story mode is missing.
