When I first started up StoneLoops! of Jurassica, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I had played arcade games similar to it, but I just didn’t quite know about this one. Companies whose tagline is “We are dedicated to making good games” are, more often than not, hit or miss. After completion of the game, however, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the production values of the game, and I could see the hard work that was put into it. Only one thing kept me from fully enjoying this game, but just how big of a factor was it?
The thing that surprised me the most about StoneLoops! of Jurasssica were the production values. I was honestly expecting another knockoff arcade game, but it is obvious that the developer used its resources very well.
First off, the menus are very simple and easy to navigate, which is crucial to any game with a targeted audience as broad as this one. Also, the sound for the game is spot-on. The explosions look and sound amazing and are still impressive even after completing all 75 levels of Adventure Mode. The backgrounds and environments, however, are mediocre at best. They tend to be recycled way too much, as do the paths laid out by the developer.
When you first begin StoneLoops! you will only have one mode available to you, Adventure Mode. Adventure mode takes you through 75 levels of everything the game has to offer. During your journey, you will travel through five different areas ranging from a lush jungle to a volcano. The paths you play on are nearly the same in each area with just a different skin on them, but at least there are 15 different stages in each one.
After completing the first five levels, which takes about seven minutes, you will unlock two other modes: Strategy and Survival. Strategy Mode is similar to Adventure Mode, except the rocks do not move with time, but with every move you make. Survival mode plays exactly as you would expect with the rocks moving continuously until you finally lose.
